Relaxation and driven steady states in holography and beyond
We study driven systems that settle into non-equilibrium steady states because forcing is balanced by relaxation. Gauge-gravity duality supplies controlled strongly coupled examples, while quasihydrodynamics organises approximately conserved quantities and other long-lived degrees of freedom.

What we are trying to understand
Which relaxation terms are compatible with symmetry, thermodynamics and microscopic response?
How do long-lived non-hydrodynamic modes modify transport in driven states?
When can holographic steady states be captured by a local effective theory?
Programme strands
What is currently in this programme
- Electrically driven non-equilibrium steady states
- Relaxed and anomalous hydrodynamics
- Holographic models of long-lived modes and transport
Why it matters
Impact and connections
The programme links holography, anomalous transport and effective field theory, with applications to strongly correlated materials and more general driven many-body systems.
